Crested caracara
Canon EOS 20D 1/320s f/5.6 ISO400Unlike the striated caracara these are very shy birds. I saw one in the distance on Saunders Island, but it would not let me get close enough to take a picture. This was a chance encounter on my last day as I wandered round Gypsey Cove, near Stanley. Fortunately he froze just long enough to allow this one shot before taking to the air
This image and others like it can be found in the Falklands Birds gallery.
